Downers Grove, IL -

Downers Grove police arrested a man last week after he allegedly attempted to run off with a bag full of cigarette cartons from Walgreens, 6240 Belmont Road.

Police said Michael J. Gemskie, 46, Aurora was charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest, police said.

Sgt. David Bormann said officers were patrolling the store’s location following several Walgreens burglaries in Aurora and Naperville during the past two months.

Bormann said Gemskie did not comment on whether or not he burglarized the other stores.
“He did not speak so we can’t confirm or deny that he was involved (in the previous burglaries,)” Bormann said.

Bormann said an officer saw Gemskie approach the store at 5 a.m. June 16 and pry the door open.

“The officer was out of his car when (Gemskie) exited the store and he ran from the police officer, but was quickly apprehended,” Bormann said.

Bormann said Gemskie was being held at DuPage County Jail.
