State police to conduct roadside safety checks in village

During the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, the Illinois State Police will conduct roadside safety checks in Downers Grove.
The checks will take place on the Butterfield Road entrance ramp to southbound Veterans’ Memorial Tollway.
Officers will keep a look out for drivers who are operating unsafe cars, driving on a suspended or revoked license, driving with open alcoholic containers in their car or driving drunk.
According to a news release from the police, 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois involve alcohol or drugs.
The roadside safety checks are funded through a grant from the United States Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
