Downers Grove, IL -

The Downers Grove Police Department is suggesting residents be on alert about a telephone scam involving jury duty.

During the scam, police said a caller identifies him or herself as an officer of the court and notifies the victim that a warrant has been issued for their arrest for failure to report for jury duty.

When the victim states they were never notified of their jury duty summons, the offender asks the victim for their social security number and date of birth. This information is used to steal the victim’s identity, police said.

The scam is being reported in 11 states including Illinois. If you receive a call, contact the Downers Grove Police Department at (630) 434-5600.
