Writer should have focused on single-payer
In politics one has to expect articles like this (“Green Party hopefuls must change their insulting tone,” Jerry Moore, Sept. 2). It comes with the territory.
Jerry is a good reporter and the Progress is a good paper, so to see such a headline and the article itself was a bit surprising.
I saw Jerry taking copious notes as several of the speakers were presenting information during a Aug. 27 forum, and I thought Jerry is going to write a terrific article on single-payer health care. Instead, when I checked the web page, I read this article.
Obviously, terms with “Tea-xxxxxx” really bothered him. I wish he would have made the point at the forum and then written about single-payer health care — his likes and dislikes.
There are several lessons to be learned here. First, all of us, not just Greens, do tend to use the sound bite of the day too often. We tend to do that because our society has become one of the five-second sound bite rather than an open, extended discussion. The DuPage Green Party is doing a quarterly forum series to get back to the in-depth discussions.
Second, when we find something offensive that the speaker may not even be aware of, we need to speak up. That means all of us. Jerry has a valid point to make; I just wish he made it at the forum. What happened here was a wasted opportunity to talk about a very important issue.

Road wasn’t problem in high-speed accident
No parent should have to grieve for the loss of a child.
But the boy who lost his life going over that section of track was doing 70 to 100 mph, according to the Downers Grove police. No restructuring of any street can guarantee a car going 70-plus mph is going to make it any safer.
I feel very sorry for Ms. Grabowski’s loss. But the road didn’t entirely cause the death of her son. I felt the article put the entire blame on that section of the road.
