Fairview Village expansion plan could grow even more
While your June 4 article, “Fairview Village plan draws concern” was factual, several important points need to be mentioned to put this rezoning issue into its proper perspective.

Rezoning residential property for the higher density requested by the Fairview Village combine opens the door to this practice elsewhere in this neighborhood community and allows further high-density construction to other large pieces of property on Fairview Avenue already owned by Fairview Village. It has not been common knowledge that Fairview Village also owns property just south of the 66th Street Community Church, and it doesn’t take much imagination to conclude that they would try to purchase the church property as well.

That done, they would own almost all of the property on the west side of Fairview Avenue from Lynn Gremer Court to 67th Place. I do not believe the Plan Commission was aware of this fact when they initially approved Fairview Village's request. Fairview Avenue could become, with the zoning changes requested, a corridor of future tax-exempt multi-family apartment buildings and obliterate the residential nature of our community where we invested, in confidence, that this area would remain single-family residential.

Experience professionals needed for roof removal
After reading several news articles about this very unfortunate accident of Dino Turco dying after a roof collapse, I can no longer sit quietly by as some very important points are not being reported to help homeowners.

There are just too many resources readily available to all homeowners to determine who and what companies are truly professionals that know what they are doing and those who do not. Let’s start with the most notable – the Better Business Bureau. Had the Westmont homeowner gone to the BBB Web site and looked up Cave’s Enterprise, he would have found nothing. Big red flag. Had the homeowner gone to the National Association of the Remodeling Industry of Greater Chicagoland’s Web site, he would have been able to read online or download a simple list of what to look for when hiring a contractor.

The homeowner went with what we pros in the industry call, “Chuck in A Truck,” or “Jack The Hack.” I’m willing to bet that Cave’s Enterprise was the cheapest out of all the estimates.

If more homeowners would take the time to do the simple online research to determine if whom they are hiring really is a pro or not, there would be allot more happier homeowners with quality work done safely with no deaths or injuries happening to anyone during the project or after completion.

As long as homeowners believe it takes no education or intelligence to do what we do for a living, then this kind of senseless death will continue to happen on a regular basis. This is no longer construction in the 1960s and 1970s. The science and technology that helps us do what we do safely and with the best quality is complicated and intricate at best. The first sign that you are working with a pro is the company  pulls a permit and refuses work from homeowners who do not pull permits.

I know the company the homeowner  now hired to finish the job and it is a professional company. It also is priced like a real business responsible for protecting its customers and employees from the dangers of what we do for a living every day.
