Downers Grove police assisted in the arrest of a man wanted in connection with a bank robbery in Sugar Grove last week.
Daniel R. Grote, 32, of Yorkville, was taken into custody Friday at Downers Grove’s Duellman Motel, 640 Ogden Ave., by the FBI and village police officers.
Police said Grote robbed the Oak Trust Credit Union in Sugar Grove at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 8. No injuries were reported.
On Tuesday, Grote appeared in U.S. District Court in Chicago where he was charged with felony bank robbery, which could result in up to 20 years in prison, according to police.
Police said Grote was ordered to be held without bond at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago.
According to a news release from the FBI, Grote gave a teller a note, which implied he had a gun, and demanded money. Police said no weapon was displayed.
“After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, Grote fled the bank, making his escape in an early 1990s model, Chevrolet S-series pick-up. While the license plate number was not observed, several witnesses did get a good look at the vehicle, providing the description to responding (Sugar Grove Police Department) officers. Subsequent investigation by the FBI and (the Downers Grove Police Department) identified Grote as the robber and he was traced to the motel in the western suburb, where he was eventually arrested,” the press released stated.
