America’s 232nd birthday was celebrated in style as the village of Downers Grove carried out a parade and fireworks display last Friday.
The annual Fourth of July parade kicked off from Main Street and Warren Avenue and headed north toward Downers Grove North High School and into the downtown district.
Mary Scalzetti, director of the Community Events department, said the Downers Grove parade is done on the same day as parades in Hinsdale and Lisle. Scalzetti said the three villages work together to bring in entertainment, such as marching bands, who perform in all three parades.
“We had great weather, which I think helps bring out many families,” Scalzetti said. “The parade is always a very well attended event. It’s a great way for a lot of people to get involved and be a part of the community.”
The parade was followed by a free fireworks show at Lemont Road and 75th Street.
