The Lisle Park District bond referendum appears to be in jeopardy, with 60 percent of the early vote going against the $21.9 million dollar proposition.
Early returns show 1,395 votes against the proposition, with 932 votes for the bond issue, according to the DuPage County Clerk’s Office Web site.
Dan Garvy, director of the park district, said he remains confident voters will support the referendum, but added “we knew going in it was a difficult time, because of the economy, to ask voters to approve a bond issue.”
Garvy said opponents have cited the economy, but not the need for a new community center, which the bonds would fund if approved.
“If the issue fails, we would not rule out going back at a time when the economy is stronger and voters might feel more compelled to support it,” Garvy said.
