Sen. Louis S. Viverito, D-11th District, of Burbank, won re-election against opponent Jeffrey Malinowski, R-Chicago, with 76 percent of the vote.
Election results showed that Viverito had 4,209 votes, to Malinowski’s 1,928 votes, or 27 percent.
“This race was no contest whatsoever,” said Michael Looney, committeeman for the Stickney Township Regular Democratic Organization. “He will probably win 90 percent of the vote.”
Viverito was not at his planned election party at Burbank Manor because he was invited to attend a private event for Barack Obama in downtown Chicago. He was not available for immediate comment.
The incumbent Viverito has served on the Senate since 1995 and is currently the assistant majority leader. He awaited race results Tuesday evening at the Burbank Manor, 6345 W. 79th St., Burbank.
Viverito, who is married to his wife Carolyn, with whom he has three children, is also the supervisor of Stickney Township and president of the Stickney Township Public Health District.
Malinowski did not return calls seeking comment.
