A student group at Downers Grove North High School will be collecting books for the Invisible Children in Uganda.
The Direct Action Community Service Club will be hosting the book drive throughout the month of October.
All the books collected will go to the Gulu Senior Secondary School in Uganda to help support the ex-child soldiers.
“They’re in desperate need of supplies and money,” said club member and junior Kirsten Keller.
The Invisible Children is a group of filmmakers who have made documentaries about the 23-year-long civil war in northern Uganda. They raise money and supplies for the child soldiers that are abducted by rebel group, the Lord’s Resistance Army, who are trying to overthrow the government.
Starting Wednesday, Oct. 7, Anderson’s Book Shop, 5112 Main St., Downers Grove will have a box for donations from the community.
“The main thing is that you can look forward gently used books in your house and you can go there and drop them off,” Kirsten said.
So far the group has gotten donations from the Downers North Science Department, and the Hinsdale Public Library also will make a donation.
