CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -

Illinois backup quarterback Eddie McGee won't be suspended after he was arrested following a homecoming dance fight Saturday, Illinois coach Ron Zook said after practice Wednesday. McGee, who practiced with the team this week, will dress when Illinois hosts Indiana Saturday night.

The No. 2 quarterback behind starter Juice Williams, McGee would avoid criminal charges when he formally accepts Champaign County state's attorney Julia Rietz's offer of adult diverson, a form of probation, as early as Thursday. McGee had no prior criminal record.

According to Champaign police, McGee was poked in the eye during a dance-floor fight, and he allegedly reacted by pushing a woman. After she retaliated, McGee knocked her to the floor.

"You know me well enough to know that if there was any issue with Eddie, there would be something done,'' Zook said. "As far as I'm concerned, I feel very, very comfortable with it. Sometimes bad things happen to good kids.''
