Exercise and trips to the gym are some of the first items people think about when wanting to lose weight, but at Medi-Weightloss Clinics, it’s all about nutrition.

“When a patient comes in, an individually designed program is made for them," said Operations Manager Kathy Pearse of Hinsdale. "If you are a gal who just needs to lose 15 pounds because she just had a baby and needs baby weight to lose, or a man who needs to lose 250 pounds, every individual has a customized program.”

The clinic is physician-supervised with doctors, medical assistants and nutritional counselors. Participants also keep a journal to document what they have eaten for the week and what they have done for exercise; even if it’s something as simple as walking the dog.

“The average weight loss in our clinic in the first week is five to 10 pounds, and the average in the weeks after is two to three,” Pearse said. “The difference there is what the people are eating.”

The clinic is mainly for educational purposes and stresses nutrition, lifestyle change, behavioral change and how to read labels.

“We know the key to long-term weight loss is 75 percent nutrition and 25 percent fitness,” she said. “The key to permanent weight loss lies in the refrigerator, not in the gym.”

The clinic’s Hinsdale location recently consolidated to 1879 Bay Scott Circle, Suite 112, Naperville. For more information, click here.
