Caucus candidates will serve Hinsdale well
This letter is in support of the Caucus-nominated candidates for the Hinsdale Village Board: Tom Cauley, Laura LaPlaca, Doug Geoga and Bob Saigh.

Having served on the caucus, I can attest to the impartial and thorough process involved in nominating candidates. The Caucus brings together many involved Hinsdale residents with varying perspectives and viewpoints. Each committee works diligently to nominate those persons committed to serving all residents of our village.

Additionally, I would like to comment on the strengths of the two candidates that I have served with on the Plan Commission for the past several years: Laura LaPlaca and Doug Geoga.

Throughout my tenure on the Plan Commission, I have been continually impressed with the thorough, thoughtful and impartial manner that these two candidates bring to each issue the Plan Commission reviews.  They are respectful of all viewpoints and are careful to implement our village code accurately and appropriately.

All of these candidates will bring an expertise to village government that can only enhance our community. Please support Tom Cauley, Doug Geoga, Laura LaPlaca and Bob Saigh for the Hinsdale Village Board.

Former trustee endorses Seith, Chapello for office
Hinsdale is facing one of the most important trustee elections in years on April 7. I am writing to urge all voters to review the candidates and issues carefully and then to support and vote for Bill Seith and Craig Chapello as new trustees.

Speaking as a former trustee, these candidates embody the qualities of ability, dedication and fairness that will enable them to serve in a manner that is best for the entire village. It is time for some new blood on the Village Board, and I believe that these two candidates will ably fill that need. Please read their Web site at myhinsdaletrustees.com for more information.

Grandfather would roll in his grave over School Board
This week my grandfather rolled over in his grave, appalled by the events and behaviors that have once again unfolded within the District 86 School Board.

You see my grandfather was a long-time  School Board member where I grew up. He understood school districts had a responsibility to help young adults in our community learn life lessons that would help them to be more successful members of society.

He knew to deliver these life lessons, the School Board he served on was accountable to the community to maintain an optimal balance of modern infrastructure, strong administrative leadership, relevant curriculum, talented mentors and diverse extra circular opportunities. He understood that ignoring any one, or worse yet, more than one aspect of education would cause all of them to fail.

Even though he was an executive bank vice president, he did not hide behind powerful words like “fiscal responsibility” and then take a singular and biased focus on only one educational aspect. He was not an elitist who when unaligned with his peers found shreds of information and then applied them out of context to compromise their position. He did not force his personal agenda on others in order to win at all costs.

There are some members of our District 86 School Board who have principles and behaviors inconsistent with my grandfather’s. One has to wonder what our schools will look like because of this. Will we loose strong administrators due to lack of balance on all aspects of education? Is it possible that talented mentors (teachers) will leave us because select portions of our infrastructure are no longer modern? Can the chess club or the yearbook continue to exist? Will there be a freshman “B” football team or a Special Olympics basketball team?

I’m the person I am today because of my grandfather. Thankfully the entire School Board he served with understood that education happened in and out of the classroom. I fear the young adults who attend District 86 schools will not have the same opportunities I did to learn the life lessons they will need to be better and more successful members of society. In the upcoming election, I will not be voting for certain board members who don’t adhere to the principles and behaviors of my grandfather. I’m hopeful members of our community will do the same.
The future of our young adults depends on it.
