A former music teacher at Montini Catholic High School will serve court supervision and community service for reportedly grabbing a student’s genitals to discipline him.
Robert Johnson, 44, 8137 Ripple Ridge Drive, Darien, pleaded guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor battery in DuPage County Circuit Court. Circuit Judge Michael Burke presided over the case.
DuPage County sheriff’s deputies arrested Johnson on Feb. 26, a week after he grabbed the 18-year-old male student while teaching a class at the school in unincorporated DuPage County near Lombard.
Johnson, who was in his fifth year at Montini, was sentenced to two years court supervision and 100 hours of community service, said Paul Darrah, a spokesman for the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office. He also will pay $240 in fines and court fees.
In addition to his sentence, Burke barred Johnson from teaching and ordered that he have no contact with children during his community service.
Johnson was fired from the school immediately following his arrest. Prior to his termination, Johnson taught instrumental music and served as staff accompanist, sophomore class moderator, student government adviser and spring musical adviser, according to the school’s Web site.
Classes are not in session at Montini, and school officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
