Singer-guitarist Dennis O’Brien, along with keyboardist and composer Scott Stevenson and finger guitarist Dave Nelson, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 9 and 10, in the Steel Beam Theatre in downtown St. Charles.
Over the years, O’Brien, Stevenson and Nelson have performed separately as solo artists and with various musical groups. They now have assembled their talents to perform some of their favorite holiday songs — traditionally and otherwise — along with some favorite non-Christmas and original pieces.
Stevenson will play piano, organ and accordion, as well as sing. He is a sought-after freelance keyboardist, arranger and composer in the Chicago area, and has performed with such groups as Famous Vacationers, Jak Makral, Mabel Mabel, Dick Smith and The John Fournier Quintet. His own jazz quartet performs his original compositions, which can be heard on a debut compact disc. Stevenson is also organist and director of music at the United Methodist Church of Geneva.
Dave Nelson has been performing throughout the Chicago and Midwest region for 25 years. The Geneva native has earned a reputation as an accomplished slide guitar player. In addition to studio session work on Dobro and resonator guitar, he has toured with Perry Jordan and Heartsfield, sharing stages with the likes of Loretta Lynn, Dickie Betts and Commander Cody. He also performs and records with Chicago singer-songwriter Reyna Larson, also on the Clayhead Records label.
O’Brien will play guitar and sing lead vocals. He has been a member of the band Avalanche for the last 20 years and is currently performing with Big Fun and the Fundamentals. O’Brien has shared the stage with such artists as The Eagles, Rare Earth, Three Dog Night and Koko Taylor.
Tickets cost $12 and can be purchased by calling (630) 443-6607 or e-mailing O’Brien at denniso8@sbcglobal.net. Steel Beam Theatre is at 111 W. Main St.
The concert is sponsored by Northern Sky Designs, LLC, a local Web design company, and www.OnTheFox.com.
