The Hinsdale Plan Commission will begin meeting two times a month instead of once beginning Jan. 27.
Neale Byrnes, chairman of the commission, made the announcement at the start of the meeting Wednesday.
In the past, the commission met every second Tuesday of the month, but now will be scheduled every second and fourth Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
“We will begin meeting twice a month, but could cancel the second meeting of the month if there is no business to discuss,” said Byrnes.
The move was prompted by a Dec. 9 meeting that ended at about 1 a.m., a meeting that included a three-hour public hearing regarding the proposed Adventist Hinsdale Hospital expansion and helicopter pad.
That meeting was continued to this Wednesday.
Byrnes contacted Village President Tom Cauley shortly after the Dec. 9 meeting to discuss how to handle lengthy meetings, and found a sympathetic ear.
“I agree something had to be done,” Cauley said. “No good decision can be made that late at night.”
Byrnes also said the commission could end meetings by 10:30 p.m. regardless of whether or not the full agenda has been addressed.
“We could always put a hard stop on meetings and continue them at a later date,” Byrnes said. “The second meeting of the month can also be for special items, like the zoning code rewrite we expect to undertake.
“If there is no business we can always cancel them.”
The Jan. 13 meeting was terminated at 10:30 p.m., with some agenda items pushed to the Jan. 27.
