Dave Sever, a Burr Ridge resident and graduate of Benet Academy in Lisle, was selected in the 16th round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Sever, a senior at St. Louis University, was the 490th overall pick.
This season the right hander led the team with a 3.60 earned run average and a 6-2 record. He struck out 70 batters (also a team high) in 65 innings of work and help opponents to a .255 batting average. His ERA mark was fifth-best in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
He ends his career at SLU as the school's all-time wins leader with 22, and is among the best in school history in several other categories, including career strikeouts (second, 269), earned run average (eighth, 4.14), starts (third, 48) and innings pitched (third, 341).
He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in last year's draft but opted to return to SLU for his senior season.
