No one was injured in a fire that caused extensive damage to a home Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 24 W. Walnut St., according to the Hinsdale Fire Department.
At 2:15 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the home and immediately called for additional manpower from neighboring fire departments, said Deputy Fire Chief Mark Johnson.
A report that someone might be trapped on the second floor led firefighters to search the home, but no one was inside, officials said.
“The only occupant at the time of the fire was a daughter of the parents who lived there. No other resident was inside,” said Johnson.
Fire investigators ruled the fire was accidental and originated near or in the attic.
“Workers painting the exterior of the home were at the residence, but at this time, the investigation is concluded,” Johnson said.
The fire was brought under control about 20 minutes after the initial call, although firefighters remained at the scene until about 5 p.m., Johnson said.
Officials did not provide an estimate of the damage caused by the fire.
Assistance was provided by several area fire departments and protection districts, including Clarendon Hills, Pleasantview, Tri-State, Darien-Woodridge, Oak Brook, Riverside and Lemont.
