West Chicago, IL -

A car crash in West Chicago closed down two lanes of traffic on eastbound Route 64 (North Avenue) for part of the afternoon Monday and seriously injured one person, according to police.

The crash took place at 1:43 p.m. on Monday in the area of Prince Crossing Road and North Avenue.

West Chicago Police Sgt. Eric Shipman said they believe an 18-wheel semi-trailer was legally parked on the shoulder of North Avenue, east of Prince Crossing Road, when a four-door Mercedes Benz struck the back of the trailer.

Shipman said about three-fourths of the Mercedes went under the trailer.

According to Shipman, the occupant of the Mercedes was taken to Central DuPage Hospital and treated for non-lifethreatening, serious injuries.

The crash is still under investigation, Shipman said. As of this moment, he said they don’t believe there were any drugs or alcohol involved.

Shipman said there will be no charges filed at this time, and he is not sure whether any other citations will be filed.
