Writer makes her picks for Hinsdale Village Board
The April 7 election is a very important one for the village of Hinsdale. We will be electing a village president and three new trustees to serve for the next four years.
Please take some time to get to know the slate that has been endorsed by both the Hinsdale Caucus and by Hinsdale First. The slate is: Tom Cauley for president, and Doug Geoga, Laura LaPlaca and Bob Saigh for trustee. Each of these candidates has very relevant experience in our village government as trustee, as a plan commission member or chair, or on the Zoning Board of Appeals. They have the expertise and dedication that is required to be effective.
But more important, they represent a new direction for Hinsdale of civility, transparency, fiscal responsibility and a willingness to listen to and learn from residents. I urge you to learn about them and to vote for them April 7.

School Board needs leaders to maintain high standards
You cannot afford to sit on the sidelines and watch in the upcoming Hinsdale Township High School District 86 Board of Education election.
Two of the incumbents snuck in the last time with an abysmal voter turn out, have wreaked havoc since and are running again. Does anybody remember the fiasco involving the past athletic director and principal? I surely do, first hand. I watched as a board member read a magazine and another looked bored to tears as students and parents addressed the issues at hand.
This group talks about fiscal responsibility? That is short for “spend no money.” They are part of a group who have no children in school and do not see the need to continue to improve our district. Their stance that “we know you think what’s best, but we know better” is infuriating.
We have had four children graduate from Hinsdale Central High School and think it would be a travesty if the quality of education were allowed to deteriorate. You cannot maintain and improve the district by cutting costs and spending no money. You reap what you sow. Let’s not let them drag our district and property values down.
Protect your child’s quality of education and your property values and go to the polls April 7 to vote for Dennis Brennan, Dee Dee Gorgol, Kay Gallo and George Karavattuveetil for a continued commitment to excellence for District 86 high schools.

Taxpayer slate right choice for Downers Township
While the election may seem behind us, the truth is it is just getting started. Coming up this April, we have an opportunity to vote in a very important election. I cannot speak for everyone, but part of the reason I chose to live in Downers Grove Township was because of what the communities offered — safety, great schools and services.
In the April election, we have an opportunity to continue to build on these cornerstones of the community by voting for the Ticket for the Taxpayer. The eight members of the Ticket for the Taxpayer ticket have worked to hold the line on spending, maintained a balanced budget, and expanded the community awareness and education programs township government offers.
When you go to the polls April 7, I hope you will join me in voting for Frank Wurster for supervisor, Diane Konicek for clerk, Terry Cockrell for assessor, and Andy Anderson for highway commissioner.

Wurster has served Downers Grove Township well
Part of the reason I live in DuPage County is because our leaders understand how to hold the line on spending and work together to keep our taxes low.
Coming up on April 7, we have an opportunity to keep DuPage County and Downers Grove Township heading the right direction and vote for the Republican township officials for election.
One of those elected officials is my friend Frank Wurster, who has dedicated the last several years to Downers Grove Township and its residents. Frank has worked hard to keep spending down and balance the budget, insuring our tax dollars are used in the most effective way.
This year, on April 7, we have an opportunity to make certain DuPage County and Downers Grove Township remain the place we have become accustomed to.
Please join me and vote for my friend Frank Wurster for supervisor.
