Police said a woman was struck and killed by an eastbound Metra commuter train last week in Clarendon Hills.

Colleen Pavlovic, 43, of Bolingbrook, was struck by an eastbound train shortly after 11:15 a.m. Aug. 8 when the train slowed to make its stop in Clarendon Hills, police said.

Police Chief Patrick Anderson said the woman was on the train tracks about 100 yards west of Prospect Avenue. Deputy Police Chief Ted Jenkins said while the DuPage County coroner’s office is currently investigating the cause of death, Pavlovic was in an area without any pedestrian crossways and where people would not normally be crossing the tracks.

The Clarendon Hills Police Department’s investigation is now closed.

“It's tragic and our condolences go out to the family,” Jenkins said. “It's just terrible for everyone involved.”

Passengers from the involved train were relocated to the Clarendon Hills train station and arrangements were made with Metra to pick up those riders. All passengers boarded a replacement train at about 12:15 p.m.

The train remained on the tracks until the scene was released at about 12:30 p.m., Anderson said.

Deputy Police Chief Ted Jenkins said there was a memorial behind the Clarendon Hills Fire Station, 316 Park Ave., — close to where the incident occurred — on Monday.
