Morton football varsity head coach Tony Asay's resignation was submitted at Wednesday night's District 201 school board meeting.
A phone call was made to Asay's cell phone this afternoon and he has yet to be reached for comment on the situation of leaving the Mustangs' program after one season. Softball junior varsity coach Scott Montgomery submitted his resignation to the board as well. Both the resignations were tabled by the board.
The Morton football team went 1-8 overall and 0-6 in the West Suburban Gold Conference last fall. Asay took over for Tom Gullickson, who went 0-18 in two seasons and was terminated after the board cited allegations of inappropriate comments, and said the program was headed in the wrong direction.
District 201 spokesman Eric Kohn said the school board described the situation as a personnel matter and chooses not to comment on those matters. A phone call was was made to Morton athletic director Steve Lemon's cell phone as well and he has yet to be reached for comment.
