According to a study by the Williams Institute at the University of California at Los Angeles, Berwyn has the fifth-highest concentration of same-sex couples in the state.
The study, which used recently released data from the 2010 U.S. Census, states that Berwyn has 173 same-sex couples, giving it a ratio of 9.16 same-sex households per 1,000. That's well above the state average of 6.7 households per 1,000.
Berwyn ranked behind Oak Park, Forest Park, Evanston and Chicago in that order. Oak Park leads the entire state at 18.06 households per thousand.

Members of the Berwyn United Neighborhood Gay and Lesbian Organization (BUNGALO), which did its own review of census information, said the highest concentration of same-sex couples in Berwyn live in or near the Metra corridor.
The group also noted that six of the top-10 suburban Chicago communites for same-sex couple concentration are in Cook County. They include Berwyn, Oak Park, Forest Park, River Forest, Westchester and Brookfield.
