Guitarist, composer, songwriter and singer Tony Melendez will perform at 7 p.m. June 26 at the Cicero Community Center, 2250 S. 49th Ave.
Melendez, who was born without arms, is perhaps best known for singing “Never Be the Same” for Pope John Paul II while playing guitar with his feet.
Born in Nicaragua, Melendez was brought to the United States as a child to be fitted with prosthetic arms. Melendez’s disability has been attributed to thalidomide, a now-banned drug once prescribed to pregnant women for morning sickness.
In addition to his music, Melendez travels the world as a motivational speaker and to raise awareness for people with disabilities. All proceeds from the concert will go to benefit people with disabilities.
Tickets $20 for preferred seating and $10 for general admission. For tickets, call (708) 209-1500.
