Cicero, IL -

A 15-year-old boy remains in critical condition after being shot in the back after an argument at a weekend party in Cicero turned violent, according to police.

Police said Alex Cuasapaz, 15, of Cicero, was shot three times by Julian Noriega, 16, of the 1553 61st Avenue in Cicero, after the two got into a verbal disagreement at the Friday night party in the 5000 block of 31st Place, police said.

“The offender allegedly pulled out a gun, the victim attempted to run and he took three shots in the back,” said town spokesman Dan Proft.

Noriega was charged with six felony counts in connection with Friday night’s shooting, including four counts of unlawful use of a weapon, one count of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Noriega was expected to return to court for a bond hearing Tuesday, police said.

Cuasapaz remained in stable, but critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital on Monday, police said.

Proft said both Cuasapaz and Noriega have ties with gangs in the area.

“It’s fair to say this was a gang-related incident,” Proft said.
