Woman charged with DUI
A Berwyn woman was charged with felony aggravated drunken driving Oct. 3.
Yaren Mascorro, 26, of the 2100 block of South Highland Avenue, was arrested after being pulled over at about 2:50 a.m. Oct. 3 at 26th Street and Ridgeland Avenue.

Officers stopped Mascorro after they observed her car come close to striking a gas pump, police said. Mascorro was given a field sobriety test and taken into custody. A breathalyzer test performed by police gave the result of 0.199, police said.

Mascorro also was charged with driving without a license, no lights when required, improper turn, no valid driver's license, no proof of insurance and obstructing an officer.

Man faces theft charge
A man who attended a service for a Berwyn resident who was murdered last month was charged with theft after being arrested the next day, police said.

John Novobylski, 17, of Worth was arrested by the Lyons Police Department at about 7:20 p.m. Oct. 3 as a possible suspect in multiple Berwyn car burglaries Oct. 2, Berwyn police said.

In a statement, Novobylski said he attended a service for his friend Anthony Yracheta, who was murdered Sept. 27, police said. Following the service, Novobylski and a friend were riding their bicycles toward Ogden Avenue when they broke into two or three cars and stole an iPod and global positioning system, police said.

Novobylski also was charged with  criminal trespass to a motor vehicle, police added.

Man shot in car
A man sitting in a car on Harlem Avenue near 16th Street was shot at about 2:55 a.m. Oct. 3.
One of the men in the car told police the car was stopped headed southbound at  when a white vehicle came by and struck the driver's side mirror, police said.

The vehicle attempted to catch up with the white car that struck him when shots were fired out of the white car, police said. One of the men inside the vehicle was shot and was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, according to police. His condition is unknown.

Drug possession alleged
A Chicago man was charged with possession of marijuana after being arrested at about 7:10 a.m. Oct. 3.

Officers were on the 2300 block of East Avenue searching for the person who damaged several cars that morning. While in the area, officers found David Medina, 23, of Chicago and stopped him, police said.

As officers searched Medina, they found a bag of marijuana in his pants pocket, police said..

Police make retail arrest
A Chicago woman was charged with retail theft after being arrested Oct. 3 at Marshalls, 7163 W. Cermak Road.

Employees told police Saleshea McCray, 29, of Chicago put 16 items, valued at $238, in a bag and attempted to leave the store. The store's security stopped McCray and held her until officers arrived, police said.
