Local police were disappointed Thursday to learn that a Riverside man whose car slammed into the Berwyn train station two years ago, killing the attendant, was sentenced to probation, not jail time.

Despite massive economic hardships this year, Berwyn firefighters collected more than $22,000 this month to fight muscular dystrophy.

Young women who live or work in the Cicero region have until early next week to submit applications for the chance to be this year’s Houby queen.

Gretchen Dennis, inclusion and staff coordinator with the West Suburban Special Recreation Association, said the organization’s volunteers are its lifeblood and best connection to the community.
