What was the first school to contact you?
Purdue.
When did Purdue first get in touch with you?
They sent me letters during the winter of my junior year and I eventually attended their camp last summer.
How many e-mails have you received from schools?
Lots of e-mails and phone calls. I was in touch with about 20 schools.
How much time did you spend overall dealing with being recruited?
My dad and I were gone a lot, making trips during this past summer. I would say it’s a couple-hours-a-day process.
How big of a role did your high school coach or athletic director play in the recruitment process?
They helped me a lot. Coach (Ryan) Wilkens hosted college coaches and myself in his office and would take them through my tape. I think it made a big difference.
What did you look for most in a school?
A lot was academics. Location was not a huge deal. The quality of the football program and the quality of coaching was important.
What do you think was the biggest contributing factor to you being recruited?
My grades made it a lot easier. Being a long snapper is considered a specialty skill and I attended specialty camps that helped develop my skills and get me noticed. The highlight tape helped as well. It really was a combination of some different factors.
Was the recruitment process stressful or fun?
A little bit of both. You don’t know how much a coach really wants you and it’s a decision that will have an effect on the rest of your life. But making the trips with my dad was a good bonding experience.
If you went through this process again, what would you do differently, if anything?
I would not do anything differently. I liked the way it worked out. Air Force is the spot for me.
