Carol Stream mom raises awareness with Charge Syndrome 5K

Carol Stream resident Sandy Kurby is organizing a 5K race to benefit the Charge Syndrome Foundation on Aug. 20.

Charge Syndrome is a genetic pattern of birth defects that occurs in about one in every 10,000 births worldwide.

Babies born with Charge can include life-threatening birth defects sch as heart and breathing problems.

Kurby, whose son was afflicted with Charge Syndrome, will be leading the race.

The race begins at 8 a.m. and will be held at Armstrong Park.
