Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream is conducting a fundraiser next week in an effort to send a World War II veteran to Washington, D.C. to visit the World War II Memorial.
During the week of May 19, Glenbard North social studies teachers will accept donations in their classrooms. In addition, a donation table will be set up in the cafeteria during all lunch periods. Donations also may be dropped off in the main office, 990 N. Kuhn Road.
The effort is being spearheaded by Owen Carlos, a junior at the school. Carlos’ goal is to raise $300 so Glenbard North can sponsor an honor flight for one veteran. He is asking that every Glenbard North student and staff member donate 25 cents toward this goal.
The program is being organized through The Honor Flight Network, a national non-for-profit organization dedicated to providing veterans with a chance to visit the WWII memorial by collecting donations from around the country, school officials said. For $300, a veteran can fly to Washington, D.C. for free.
