A Chicago man faces charges in connection with allegedly trying to set up a sexual encounter in Carol Stream with who he believed to be a 13-year-old he met on the Internet.

Michael D. Wawrzyniak, 23, of Chicago, was charged last Friday with one count of indecent solicitation of a child.  He is being held on $150,000 bond in DuPage County Jail, according to Carol Stream Deputy Police Chief Kevin Orr.

Before the arrest, Wawrzyniak worked as a disc jockey on 103.5 KISS FM, where he was known as "Radio Boy." A spokesman for Clear Channel Radio-Chicago, the station's owner, said he is no longer employed.

The charges come after an online sting operation involving police detectives posing as the child.

Orr said the charges were filed after an “extensive” online investigation. Orr said detectives were solicited for sex by Wawrzyniak, and a meeting place was set up in Carol Stream where the suspect was expected to meet the child. The child's gender was not specified by police.

Orr said Wawrzyniak was taken into custody when he arrived at the location on Friday. Police would not say where the meeting took place, only that it was along a street in a residential area of the village.

The investigation centered solely on Wawrzyniak, as police don’t normally conduct online investigations posing as children, Orr said.

He said this case proves the importance of parents paying close attention to children’s online activities.

“Hopefully this investigation has prevented a child from becoming the victim of a heinous act in the future,” Orr said.

Wawrzyniak posted bond on the charge and was released from jail on Jan. 5, according to a spokesperson for the DuPage County Jail.

He is next due in court at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28 before Judge Michael Burke, said Paul Darrah, a spokesman for the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
