Blue Springs, MO -

David Cook fans only have a few more months to wait.

The “American Idol” winner told The Examiner he anticipates his first CD since will be released in November.

“I’ve been able to do some great co-writes,” Cook said in a phone interview. “It’s been fun.”

Cook gained a lot of fans on the show by putting his own spin on popular songs like Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby.” His singles from the show also broke Billboard chart records for the number of hit singles (11) by one artist at a time.

That includes his first single, “The Time of Life,” which he sang after being crowned the winner. “The Time of My Life” had 944,000 downloads in the first week and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 100 charts. It also debuted at No. 1 the Hot Digital Songs and the Hot Digital-Tracks charts.

But fans shouldn’t expect to see those songs that led him to the finish line on the new album.

“I’ve spent the last year of my life singing other people’s songs,” Cook said. “At this stage it’s not looking too promising (having his performances from the show on his album). I definitely want to progress past that and be an artist.”

Cook, 25, is working with producer Rob Cavallo on his album. Cavallo has worked with artists such as Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Kid Rock, Goo Goo Dolls and Dave Matthews Band.

According to Billboard.com, Cook has, so far, collaborated with Collective Soul’s Ed Roland, Our Lady Peace’s, Raine Maida and others. His album will be released through 19 Recordings/RCA Records.

Currently, Cook is on tour with the top 10 contestants from the show.

Cook -- a Missouri native -- and his brother Andrew will sing the National Anthem at the Kansas City Chiefs home opener against the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 14. Then, he’ll head back to Los Angeles to finish his album, he said.

“I’m looking to maybe get a little bit of downtime around Christmas,” Cook said. “I’m scheduled pretty much through the end of the year.”

Once his album is out, and after the start of the new year, Cook said he’ll begin touring with his album.
