Cell antenna near Central raises health concerns
A cell antenna on the water tower located on Hinsdale Township High School District 86 property? The water tower is about 600 feet from the school building and sits adjacent to the athletic fields at Hinsdale Central High School. The village of Hinsdale owns the water tower.
Safety and health issues should be considered before a decision is made. Along with the cell transmitter and receiver, there will be wires, cables and fencing (indicates a hazard by itself) on the site.
There is credible scientific evidence that states electromagnetic fields and radio frequency radiation, emitted by cell antennas, have been linked to adverse health issues. These include childhood leukemia, brain tumors, DNA damage, neurological effects, immune problems, breast cancer, memory loss, stunted learning, concentration impairment, headaches, fatigue and sleep disorder (bioinitiative.org).
Dr. David O. Carpenter, director of the University of Albany Institute of Health and the Environment, was the director of the New York State study about the effect of power lines on the health of nearby residents. He concludes, “The existing FCC and international limits do not do enough to protect people, especially children, from daily exposures to electromagnetic fields and radio frequency radiation ... these effects are now widely reported to occur at exposure levels significantly below most current national and international limits.”
Since growth and development occurs into teenage years, we should not knowingly increase the daily bombardment of EMF levels to the 2,700 students at Hinsdale Central. Is financial gain more important than the health and safety of our children?
