The skate park at Veeck Park in Hinsdale, originally scheduled to re-open last weekend will be open this Saturday, July 11.
The park, closed for the last several weeks while construction crews build a wet weather storm-water facility at the northwest corner of the park, was scheduled to re-open on weekends beginning July 4.
However, village employees responsible for unlocking the gate to the skate facility apparently got their signals crossed July 4 and never got around to opening the facility, said Gina Hassett, director of the Hinsdale Parks and Recreation Department.
“There was some confusion between the Police Department and the Public Works Department as to who was to unlock the gates, so the park remained locked last weekend,” Hassett said. “We didn’t event know it had not been re-opened until someone called us to tell us."
Hassett said the communication problem has been ironed out, and skateboarders can expect the park to be opened at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12. The park, which will remain closed on weekdays until the construction is completed, is scheduled to close at dusk on days it is open.
The wet weather facility is slated to be completed in the fall, village officials said.
Nine citations have been issued to people trespassing inside the skate park facility during the last few weeks, Hinsdale police said.
“The violators apparently were gaining access to the park by climbing the chain link fence surrounding it,” said Deputy Police Chief Mark Wodka.
