About 100 Hinsdale Central High School students will take part in a police drill/crisis simulation scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 10, at Hinsdale Central High School, 55th and Grant streets, in Hinsdale.
According to Hinsdale Deputy Police Chief Mark Wodka, the simulation will be a training exercise for officers responding to an unspecified mock emergency at the school.
“We want to keep the details unannounced until the officers have to respond to it,” Wodka said. “This is one of those training drills you never hope to have to use in real life, but need to practice for anyway.”
School officials have recruited students to participate in the drill, which should occupy about eight to 10 classrooms and require the closure of Grant Street south of 55th Street for the duration of the event.
During the simulation access to the building for school programs will be allowed only from Grant Street south of 57th Street, and students not participating in the drill will not be allowed to use any doors except those at the field house and the gymnasium/pool on the south side of the building, school officials said.
Signage will be placed at various locations so motorists and members of the community will be aware the event is only a simulation, said Deputy Police Chief Kevin Simpson.
