Hinsdale, IL -

Two female state representatives are teaming up once again to bring women — and even men — a day to learn, hear from experts, and get free health assessments.

State Reps. Sandy Pihos, 42nd District, of Glen Ellyn, and Patti Bellock, R-47th District, of Westmont, will host the second annual DuPage Women’s Fair at Yorktown Shopping Center on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

“We’re excited to have the fair back at Yorktown,” said Lindsey Burke, Yorktown marketing director.

Bellock said more than 1,700 people came out to the inaugural fair last year and is expecting an even bigger crowd Wednesday at the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first floor of the mall’s central concourse outside of Von Maur.

"Some of the people stayed all day last year," Bellock said. "I thought it would just be people walking through the mall, but people stayed the entire time."

Bellock and Pihos lined up guest speakers to go along with businesses and Central DuPage, Good Samaritan and Elmhurst hospitals that will have interactive table demonstrations and distribute information.

One of the speakers new to the fair this year is Dr. Ahmed Elborno, who garnered attention after helping a woman with Parkinson’s disease stop her tremors after a problem with lower back pain.

“I was so impressed with him,” Bellock said.

Some of the most popular attractions at the fair, according to Bellock, are the free vision, leg and blood-pressure screenings.

"If they go to a doctor’s office for these screenings, it could be up to $1,000," Bellock said.
Along with free screenings, Burke said, many of the stores in Yorktown will give out free items, and many have donated prizes for drawings throughout the fair.

Bellock said men are more than welcome to attend.

"A lot of the things are geared toward women," she said, "but we'd love to have men there, too."
Bellock said she may have to miss the event, but with good reason. Her daughter is pregnant and her due date is Wednesday.
