Whether you’re into fast cars or swift horses, the Oak Brook Polo Club has something to fulfill your need for speed.

As the season enters its last two weekends, the club will host a polo tournament and car show Sunday, Sept. 7, and an afternoon of Argentine flavor Sunday, Sept. 14.

“Polo is such an amazing sport. You’re up close to the action and you can feel it,” said Karen Martino, director of the club.

This Sunday features the Chicagoland Mercedes-Benz Club displaying about 35 automobiles from the area.

The Rotary Cup polo match gets into full swing at 1 p.m. and guests are welcome to pack a picnic or purchase food from the grill.

The polo season at the club ends Sept. 14 with a day full of Argentina-related festivities, a day Martino said is the club’s biggest event. The fifth annual Argentine-American polo cup will see the United States host the Argentina team.

Helping visitors get into the Argentina mood is Chicago based restaurant Tango Sur, serving traditional cuisine, along with Buenos Aires Forever bakery of Chicago.

“People love this event.” said Martino. “It’s a great cultural experience.”
Wine from Argentina will be available alongside booths featuring jewelry, polo jerseys and other merchandise.

Closing out the Sept. 14 event is Latin Grammy Award artist, Alberto Rojo. Taking the stage from 12:30 to 1 p.m. and again after the polo match at about 3 p.m., Rojo will provide musical stylings of folk, tango and jazz with a South American feel.

Gates open at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 7 and noon Sept. 14. Adult admission at $10, senior 65 and older $5 and children under 12 and parking are free.
