
A man posing as someone doing work at a woman’s home in the 9100 block of Cermak Road in North Riverside robbed her at about 10:20 a.m. Oct. 21, police said.
The man knocked on the woman’s door and told her he was supposed to meet someone there regarding work that needed to be done and asked to use her telephone. After being let in, he took a gold chain and charms from the woman’s neck and ransacked her jewelry box and purse, police said.
He left with an unknown amount of money and jewelry. The victim, an 80 year old female, was unharmed, police said.
The man is described as Hispanic, between 5 feet 9 inches tall, clean shaven and wearing all dark clothing.
Residents are advised to use caution when dealing with strangers that come to the door and to immediately contact police regarding any suspicious people or activity.
