Brookfield, IL -

Although there will not be enough swine flu vaccines to go around, students at a Brookfield school could be covered if an outbreak occurs.

The Cook County Health Department is implementing swine flu vaccine plans, which include vaccinating students at  several Lyons Elementary School District 103 schools: Lincoln School in Brookfield, as well as Costello Elementary, Robinson Elementary and George Washington Middle School in Lyons, said District 103 Superintendent Michael Warner.

The district has taken proactive measures against the flu, including installing hand sanitizers in classrooms and sending fliers home with information.

The Stickney Health Department has applied to receive enough H1N1 vaccines to could vaccinate most township residents, and if an outbreak occurs, vaccines could come to the schools.

“No one has been notified of when they are going to receive vaccines,” Warner said. “Stickney plans on using the vaccines to vaccinate their community members through one of their three clinics. If there is a severe outbreak, to get at more people, particularly students in higher risk categories, we will vaccinate at Home and Edison schools.”

The two elementary schools, located in Stickney, have about 530 students combined.

For more information, call the district at (708) 783-4100.
