Brookfield village officials traveled to Springfield Thursday, Oct. 29, to accept their Governor’s Hometown Award for Project NICE 2008, a community cleanup effort.
Brookfield won first place in the Clean Up and Beautification category. The town of Lisle took second place in the category for its rain barrel program.
Officials brought home a plaque designating the town as a Governor’s Hometown Award winner and a road sign. Village officials have not yet determined where the road sign will be placed.
Forty-six awards in eight different categories were given out at the ceremony. The program is part of the state’s Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
