The British Home Retirement Community in Brookfield has earned national recognition for its care programs and will be featured during the Chicago convention.
The American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging exposition will take place from Nov. 8 to 11, and The British Home will be a tour and educational site for the cross-country participants.
According to a press release, The British Home was “selected based on its innovative and unique services and programming for seniors, and because AAHSA believes members will gain innovative information and inspiration from the management team of The British Home.”
“We have the privilege of being the showcase site here,” said Dennis Sonnenberg, the executive director of The British Home, 8700 W. 31st St.
He believes different classes earned The British Home the AAHSA recognition.
“We have brain fitness classes that involve computer based programs to improve concentration,” Sonnenberg said. “At our active living center, we have a personal trainer that is oriented to senior participants.”
Seniors outside The British Home community can also take part in the classes.
“We’ve organized classes and have made them available for seniors in our area, to give them access to fitness programming,” Sonnenberg said. “It’s been a very positive development.”
On Sunday,Nov. 8, The British Home will offer tours for AAHSA members.
Members of The British Home will tell stories about the organization’s history and mission in five different campuses of the site.
The British Home will be a classroom of sorts Nov. 11 for Leadership AAHSA, an educational experience for executive level AAHSA members.
“They are being groomed as future leaders in the field,” Sonnenberg said.
