Brookfield, IL -

Newsweek on Tuesday released its list of top public high schools across the country.

Riverside Brookfield High School topped the list in the western suburbs coming in at 133.

Other schools that ranked in the area were:

Glenbard West in Glen Ellyn — 932
Lyons Township in La Grange — 1,123
Glenbard East in Lombard — 1,127
St. Charles North in St. Charles — 1,143
Downers Grove North in Downers Grove —1,247
Glenbard South in Glen Ellyn — 1,266
York Community in Elmhurst — 1,305

To get the rankings, Newsweek researchers took the total number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests given at a school in May and divided that number by the number of graduating seniors. The schools that achievedd a ratio of at least 1.000 — they had as many tests in 2007 as they had graduates — are placed on the list and the schools with the highest ratios are named in the magazine.
