OUTLOOK
Last season, De La Salle proved to be dominant in conference play by outscoring Chicago Catholic League White foes 140-58. And much of the reason for the Meteors first-place finish in the CCLW was all-state senior running back Cordero Gaston, who collected 1,831 yards, 23 touchdowns and the Catholic League’s Tony Lawless Award. But Gaston is now gone, leaving an opportunity for the next star of the CCLW to step in.
Regardless of who shines in the conference from an individual standpoint, the league should be wide open in terms of which team will push for the conference title. Fenwick, last year’s runner-up, might have the best chance to separate itself from the rest of the pack considering the 2007 squad relied heavily on the play of its sophomore and junior classes. But McNamara, De La Salle and St. Laurence could certainly all prove to be dangerous as well.
