The Riverside Brookfield boys basketball team has an experienced backcourt in seniors Ryan Jackson, Sean McGonagill and Billy VandeMerkt, a trio that will be the face of the Bulldogs this season. Fortunately for RB, its a trio Coach Tom McCloskey thinks is one of the best around.

Riverside Brookfield is coming off one of the best years in school history, a season that featured a school-record 17-game winning streak to start the season and ended with a 73-51 loss to St. Joseph in the regional finals.

Lyons Township was a young team last season with three sophomores on the varsity squad. That didn’t stop the LT sophomore team from posting an undefeated 21-0 record for the season, a mark that has Lions coach Dawn Schabacker excited about the potential for this year’s varsity.

Aaron Nagel was a linebacker at Notre Dame, one of college football’s Holy Grails, but he wasn’t happy. The Lemont graduate did not like the Fighting Irish’s coaches. They weren’t the kind of people he thought they would be back when he committed to play football there. He wanted something different. That’s when he rediscovered his youth.
