IPod stolen from car
A $400 iPod was reported taken from a car Oct. 17 in the 4000 block of Maple Avenue, according to reports. The passenger-side door window was smashed to gain entry to the vehicle.
Woman robbed at home
A purse and wallet and about $300 were stolen at about 12:45 p.m. Oct. 17 in the 9500 block of Burlington Avenue, according to reports.
The woman said she was returning home from lunch and entered her home through the back door when she said she was pushed into the door, police said. One of the two offenders took her purse and left, police added.
LA GRANGE
Cars reported burglarized
A rash of car burglaries in La Grange and other surrounding communities has prompted police to issue a warning to residents urging them to keep their vehicles locked and their eyes open.
From Oct. 16 to 22, break-ins were reported to 10 vehicles and garages, most of which were unlocked at the time.
The area with the heaviest concentration of burglaries is in the 100 through 500 blocks of Waiola Avenue and the 700 block of Madison Avenue. A laptop computer and a bicycle were reported stolen from a car and a garage at separate addresses.
La Grange police investigator Robert Wardlaw said most burglaries appear to be taking place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Residents are reminded to secure their cars at all times and remove items from plain view located inside the vehicle.
Copper thieves strike again
Copper scraps and fittings were reported stolen from a home in the first block of South Waiola Avenue Oct. 16.
Police said boards were removed to gain access to the empty home. The copper was valued at $700, according to police.
Pottery taken at store
Pottery items were reported stolen from a downtown La Grange business at 5 p.m. Oct. 21.
The owner of Terra Incognito, 35 S. La Grange Road, told police he noticed two tea pots, valued at $1,300, missing from a display area when he came into work. Both pots were in their place Sunday when he left.
A few weeks before, a $400 tea pot was discovered stolen, the owner said.
RIVERSIDE
Man faces DUI charge
Arturo Villaseca, 18, of Chicago was charged with aggravated DUI after being arrested at about 1:45 a.m. Oct. 19 while traveling on Harlem Avenue from Longcommon Road, according to reports.
Police said Villaseca was traveling 50 mph in a 35 mph zone and when they turned to follow him noticed he was switching lanes multiple times without a turn signal.
He had a blood alcohol content of .106 and failed field sobriety tests, police added.
He also was cited for speeding, failure to signal, no proof of a driver’s license and no proof of insurance, according to reports.
