ELMHURST, IL -

Eleven-year-old daughter Mikki can’t wait to see the hit Disney movie “High School Musical 3,” so her mom, Nancy Szatkowski, went to some dramatic lengths of her own to arrange a personal screening in Elmhurst for Mikki and other kids with special needs.

To publicize Szatkowski’s project to every family in the area, the co-chairs of the District 205 PTA’s Special Education Resource Group, Kristin Boxall and Dena Seidenfuss, have plastered the town with fliers and asked organizations such as Easter Seals in Villa Park to help spread the word.

“I know she cannot sit in the theater in the dark with it as loud as it tends to be,” Szatkowski said of her daughter, who has Down’s syndrome. “It never works, so I called the theater to see if we could do something like this. They were able to work with us.”

Any child with a disability and their family and friends, are invited to the special screening Saturday morning, Nov. 8, at York Theatre, with 295 seats available to see the singing and dancing teens on the big screen. No reservations are required.

“There will be low lighting and reduced sound to make it comfortable for everyone,” said Szatkowski, a member of District 205 PTA-SERG.

“We’re pleased and excited to provide this social opportunity for our kids,” Boxall said. “Typically, we just do a lot of programming for parents. This is the first social opportunity that we’re doing. We’re hoping it will be successful.”

Kids can thank Mikki’s enjoyment of such Disney Channel offerings as “Hannah Montana,” “High School Musical” and “Camp Rock” for the special screening.

“She loves them all,” said Szatkowski of her daughter, who attends Field Elementary School in Elmhurst.
