• Twenty-six residents were named to the spring semester dean’s list at Northern Illinois University. The dean’s list is compiled by the university’s colleges according to varying criteria, including class rank and grade point average. • James Juvancic of Westchester was inducted into Golden Key International Honor Society at DePaul University. The society recognizes juniors and seniors in the top 15 percent of their class.

• Brian Kadow of Western Springs was named to the spring semester dean’s honor roll at Creighton University, Omaha, Neb. To qualify for the honor roll, a student must achieve a minimum 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

• Stephanie Simmons of Westchester was named to the spring semester dean’s list at St. Norberg College, DePere, Wis. To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average.

• Patrick Brewick of La Grange Park was named to the spring semester dean’s list at the University of Notre Dame. The dean’s honors recognizes students in the top 30 percent of their college.

• Ethan Turbek of Brookfield and Tomo Lazovich of Lyons are 2007 National Merit $2,500 scholarship recipients. Awardees are finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishment, skills and potential for success in college and are selected by a committee of college admission officers and high school counselors.

• Michael Stachyra of Hillside received the Michael A. Scott Scholarship from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston. The award is presented to juniors or seniors with a declared major in physics. The student must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

• Claire Nelligan of La Grange Park and Laura Gill of Riverside were named to the spring semester dean’s list at Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Ind. To earn academic honors, a student must attain a minimum 3.4 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

• Fourteen local residents received bachelor’s degrees from Columbia College during May commencement exercises. Graduates include Broadview resident Kevin Jones; Brookfield residents Frederick Krubel and Ryane Kaucher; La Grange Park residents Colleen Haney and Joanna Gancarczyk; North Riverside residents Lauren Montague, Adam Rosen and Armando Juarez; Riverside residents Lefvia Marrero, Alexander Lappin and Rodolfo Hernandez; and Westchester residents Mariza Brotonel, Ryan Fowel and Peter Grossmann.

• Anne Watts of La Grange Park was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Providence College, R.I. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must achieve a minimum 3.55 grade point average.

• Ashley Lubenkov of La Grange received a bachelor of arts degree in political science and French from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C., during spring commencement ceremonies. She was a Wake Forest Scholarship student all four years.

• Katie Reda of Indian Head Park received a bachelor of science degree in hospitality administration from Boston University, Mass., during spring commencement exercises.

• Twenty-two residents were named Indiana University Founders Day honorees for the 2006-07 academic year. To receive academic honors a student must earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Students include Brookfield residents Ashley Urben and Katherine Cosgrove; Burr Ridge residents Kelly Waldvogel, Joshua Heffron, Danielle Dyson and Jehad Bittar; Indian Head Park resident Catherine Gula; La Grange residents Ryan Malloy, Nicholas Pavilonis, Kate Catherall and Christine Vaccarello; La Grange Park residents Andrew Conwell and Sandra Thoms; Western Springs residents Kristen Pipal, Megan Bourke, James Goldrick, Meghan Fitzpatrick, Justine Martin, Robert Powers, James Hogg and John Shannon; and Willow Springs resident Jessica Lee.

• Richard Barritt of Western Springs received the ADM Scholarship, Top Ten Senior Award and Delta Sigma Pi Key from the College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign during the spring awards banquet.

School news

• Chinelo Agwuncha of Westchester has enrolled at The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy for the 2007-08 academic year as a member of the sophomore class.

• Fenwick High School, Oak Park, science teacher Marcus McKinley has received a $10,000 grant from the BP Corporation as part of its A+ for Energy Program. BP awards money for creative classroom activity involving energy and conservation. The money will be used to purchase an infrared camera to use for thermal imaging. McKinley also received a scholarship to attend a three-day energy training conference presented by the National Energy Education Project.
