A science fair open house is set for Thursday from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at Lindop School, 2400 S. 18th Ave., Broadview. Students from pre-K through third-grade will exhibit classroom projects while fourth- through eighth-grade students will exhibit projects individually completed. An awards program will be held following the open house. Admission is free. More information is available at (708) 345-3110, Ext. 232.

• Riverside-Brookfield High School will administer its eighth-grade placement exam to students in the district who will be entering high school in the fall of 2008. The exam will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. The front doors will open at 7:45 a.m. Students are to go directly to the auditorium. Students are asked to bring two No. 2 pencils and a calculator to the exam. For more information, call (708) 442-7500, Ext. 190.

• Montini Catholic High School, Lombard, will administer its eighth-grade placement exam at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Students should arrive no later than 8:15 a.m. and bring two No. 2 pencils. Those who have not pre-registered must arrive at 8 a.m. and should be sure to bring the $30 application fee and their Social Security number. The test takes three hours and calculators are not allowed. The students who receive the top 10 scores on the exam will each receive a $1,000 scholarship for the 2008-09 academic year. A pre-test/registration night will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, for students who haven’t already registered for the exam, and bring the $30 application fee and their Social Security number. A sample of a previous exam will be given to acquaint students with the test format.

• The entrance exam for students planning to attend Fenwick High School, Oak Park, in the fall of 2008 will be held Saturdayat the school. The test will begin at 8 a.m. Students should bring two No. 2 pencils and $25 in cash or a check made payable to Fenwick High School. Calculators are not allowed. Students should enter through the doors on Washington near East Avenue. Parents who wish to stay can park in the lot at Oak Park and Madison avenues. Coffee will be provided in the school cafeteria. Students who wish to attend Fenwick must take the test at Fenwick. The school does not accept test results from other schools. For further information, call (708) 386-0127, Ext. 115.

Accomplishments

• Twenty-two Riverside-Brookfield High School students were selected by the Illinois Music Educators Association to participate in the organization’s 2007 Illinois Music Educators Association senior division District 1 festival in November. Students include band members Elizabeth Baratta, Andrew Huebler, Jeff Kutschke, Matt Olson, Ruth Osbrink and Jessica Zenchak; orchestra members Jackie Pendola and Carolyn Tomecek; jazz band members Sam Brown and Matt Olson; vocal jazz ensemble members Maria Chiappetta and Ellen Farnham; and chorus members Mona Alshorah, Cathy Bruton, Maria Chiappetta, Cassie Coglianese, Stephanie Duve, Ellen Farnham, Maddy King, Olivia Landa, Vija Lietuvninkas, Marie Olsen, Nathan Smith, Olivia Toriumii and Hannah Toriumi. Participants were chosen after an audition process, competing against students from 85 high schools.

• Four District 107 Pleasantdale School students were selected to perform in the Illinois Music Educators Association Junior Festival in November. Students chosen include Stephen Berg, violin; Kayla Morrissey, tuba; and Krstina Harvel and Natalia Ogurkiewicz, choir.

• William Simon of La Grange, a senior at Marmion Academy, Aurora, was named an Illinois State Scholar by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. Illinois State Scholars rank in the top 10 percent of the state’s 147,000 high school graduating seniors.
