Several area park districts and recreation agencies are being notified by local legislators that pending Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grants are being confirmed by local legislators.

Dawn Caldwell, assistant village manager for Romeoville, said this morning a $400,000 OSLAD grant to develop Deer Crossing Park was confirmed recently by state Rep. Brent Hassert, R-85th, Romeoville.

Romeoville also is expected to receive $500,000 in member initiative funding to continue a bike path from Romeoville High School to Weber Road, and to begin preliminary engineering on a pedestrian bridge over Weber Road.

Brook Robinson, legislative aide for state Rep. Jim Meyer, R-48th District, Naperville, said a $400,000 OSLAD grant for the development of Winding Creek Park has been confirmed. Robinson also said the DuPage County Forest Preserve District will receive a $252,000 OSLAD grant.

Woodridge Park District is still awaiting word on its $400,000 grant application for use in improvements at Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Center on Janes Avenue.

“We have not received anything in writing yet, and until we do we cannot confirm anything,” said Mike Adams, executive director for the Woodridge Park District.

Hassert said he was notified on Tuesday by Governor Rod Blagojevich’s office the grants were beginning to be released.

The grants usually are announced in January in conjunction with a press release from the governor’s office  or from the Department of Natural Resources, but have yet to be officially confirmed by either office.
