Punxsutawney Phil laughed in the face of this week's unseasonably mild temperatures, while Woodstock Willie relished the weather.

Despite a high of 60 degrees on Tuesday, two days later, Phil came out of his hole and saw his shadow this morning in Punxsutawney, Pa. — a folklore declaration indicating there will be six more weeks of winter.

Phil didn't have much local competition in the case of groundhogs that might have a different opinion; however, Woodstock Willie in Woodstock didn't see his shadow. Although we might have had a possible tiebreaker here, Brookfield Zoo had canceled its Groundhog Day event today, instead offering free admission to the zoo and other exhibits.

"I'm sorry to say, Tumbleweed passed away last year," zoo spokeswoman Sondra Katzen said in an email. "We hope to have groundhogs again soon."

Last year, Groundhog Day in the Chicago suburbs was impeded by the February 2011 blizzard that closed the zoo for the first time in its 77-year history.
